In today’s society, a growing number of people are plagued by mental health issues such as depression, anxiety disorders, and schizophrenia.
Mainstream approaches usually rely on medication and psychotherapy to alleviate symptoms. These methods are certainly important and have indeed helped many individuals.
Yet in reality, we still observe certain phenomena: Some people experience recurrent mental health episodes despite long-term medication; some cannot identify a clear cause for their struggles; others, despite having no material hardships in life, remain trapped in the abyss of emotional and mental distress.
What if the problem does not lie only at the level of brain chemistry? What if there is a deeper layer of energetic and karmic structure? Something that we have long ignored beyond the physical and psychological realms?
Today, I want to set aside the frameworks of medicine and psychology for a moment, and explore the potential underlying causes of mental issues from a metaphysical perspective. This is not an attempt to reject modern science, but rather to offer an additional layer of understanding that has existed for centuries.
1. BaZi (Four Pillars of Destiny / Chinese Astrology): Inborn Energetic Imbalances
Within the BaZi astrology system, certain energetic structures are traditionally believed to be more prone to psychological strain and emotional instability.
For example, individuals with excessively strong supportive elements may struggle with insecurity, overthinking, suspicion, and constant emotional fluctuation. Those whose core energy is weak but under constant pressure often experience repeated life challenges, prolonged stress, and emotional exhaustion, which can eventually lead to psychological breakdown.
Meanwhile, individuals whose expressive energy is restricted may suppress their thoughts and emotions for long periods, internalizing frustration and negativity until it manifests as mental distress.
2. Daoist Soul Theory: Disruption of Inner Balance
According to Daoist philosophy, a person is composed of three souls and seven spirits (San Hun Qi Po). The three souls govern consciousness, vitality, and higher awareness, while the seven spirits regulate basic emotions such as joy, anger, sorrow, and fear.
When one of the souls becomes weakened or disconnected, a person may experience emotional numbness, confusion, or a sense of detachment. Similarly, prolonged imbalance in the spirits—such as unresolved grief—can disturb mental stability. It is often compared to a house without proper management: the structure remains, but disorder gradually takes over.
3. Family Karma: The Energetic Debt Passed Down Through Generations
A family is like a tightly connected energetic community. Unresolved conflicts, unaddressed karmic ties from our ancestors get passed down to future generations in the form of family karma.
If a family member has been forgotten, ostracized, or if long-standing resentment and indifference linger within the family, these unprocessed negative energies will create an "energetic void". Eventually, this void manifests as mental struggles and emotional disturbances in the descendants.
It’s like an unfinished business within the family system—one that needs someone to take on and resolve it. And more often than not, mental health issues are the outward signs of this inherited energetic debt.
4. Invasion of Malicious External Energies: Curses, Fortune Theft, and Black Magic
This is the most hidden yet direct form of negative energy influence, manifesting in three key ways:
Black magic curses: Others channel negative energy through malicious rituals, directly disrupting a person’s mental state and fortune. Victims may suddenly suffer from confused thinking, irritable moods, insomnia, and anxiety—symptoms that can escalate into severe schizophrenia over time.
Fortune theft: Perpetrators siphon your positive energy and transfer their own bad luck to you through underhanded means. Those targeted quickly become listless, struggle to focus, and swing between extreme emotions, as if their life force has been drained away.
Low-frequency energetic interference: In some metaphysical traditions, certain mental disturbances are understood as interference from low-frequency external energies. When a person’s energetic boundaries are weak, they may be more susceptible to such influences. Symptoms described in these cases include hallucinations, intrusive thoughts, emotional volatility, or sudden behavioral changes. From this perspective, the issue is less about pathology and more about a compromised energetic defense system.
5. Feng Shui: Subtle but Persistent Environmental Influence
Feng Shui energy is believed to have a long-term, cumulative impact on mental wellbeing. In traditional Chinese metaphysical belief systems, certain Yin House (burial site) configurations are thought to influence descendants’ psychological stability.
In daily living environments (Yang House Feng Shui), prolonged exposure to chaotic or oppressive spaces—such as persistent noise, disruptive home layouts, or high-pressure surroundings—can keep the nervous system in a constant state of alert. Over time, this may contribute to anxiety, emotional instability, and mental fatigue.
If you’ve been struggling with mental and emotional challenges for a long time, tried various methods, but keep experiencing recurring difficulties; if you feel persistent, unexplained emotional pressure, or have experiences that are hard for others to understand—and if reading the article above resonates with you, it may indicate that some issues are not only at the surface level.
